Baseball: Utes slay Air Force

By By Cody Brunner and By Cody Brunner March 31, 2008
When in doubt, just schedule Air Force. Sitting near the bottom of the conference and carrying an 8-12 overall record heading into last weekend, the Utah baseball team wasn't exactly a model of success. The Utes were averaging several fielding errors per game, struggled at the plate,.

By and March 31, 2008
The Utah women's tennis team split a pair of games last weekend in Provo, squeaking out a narrow 4-3 win over San Diego State on Friday then getting blanked 4-0 by UNLV on Saturday. The meets marked the Utes' first conference contests of the season and put them at 10-6 on the season.

MLS: New rules allow for rougher play

By and March 31, 2008
If Saturday's match between Real Salt Lake and the Chicago Fire is any indication of what is to come this season, hockey and American football fans might want to start paying attention. Between the two teams, 19 fouls were called in the 1-1 draw, but if this were last season, that number would have been much higher.

Sine: Democrats’ bickering handing McCain the election

By and March 31, 2008
I'm not usually one to expect people in the political sphere to play nice. I understand the sort of brazen ego it takes to actually put oneself out there and say, "I'm the best, the most knowledgeable, the one to choose." That sort of ego doesn't allow for niceness, though -- it can't for fear that another bigger ego will trample it into political oblivion.

Lacrosse: Utes sweep Colorado teams

By By Tim Haslam and By Tim Haslam March 31, 2008
Last weekend might just have been the greatest 48 hours in the history of Utah lacrosse. The Utes (5-6, 2-0 Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference) went into their Colorado road trip as huge underdogs -- they had a 1-15 overall record against Colorado and Colorado State over the past six years -- but escaped as the top dogs.

While Sydney Osmun danced and stayed awake for over 26.2 hours last weekend to raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation, her father continued fighting the deadly disease. "My dad is my best friend in the entire world, and he's been going through some pretty amazing treatments," said Osmun, a sophomore in marketing.

British policies sparked Palestine conflict, speaker says

By By Dan Treasure and By Dan Treasure March 31, 2008
The source of strife in Palestine dates back to the British failure to broker an acceptable solution for the Jewish immigration problem in what is now Israel, William Lewis said. During a lecture last Tuesday, Lewis, a professor at the University of Texas, Austin, talked about the events leading up to the historic vote by the United Nations approving the U.

Gymnastics: Just like in the movies

By By Jon Gilbert and By Jon Gilbert March 31, 2008
You can't make endings like this up. It might be a cliche, but let it be used one more time. The Utah gymnastics team defeated BYU 197.100-193.850 on Senior Night in the Huntsman Center Friday. For Utah's three seniors, the night played out much like a movie script.

By By Tayler Covington and By Tayler Covington March 31, 2008
Polar explorers witnessed pollution in the Arctic as early as 1870, according to a new study that U scientists conducted. Tim Garrett, a professor of meteorology, said he and many other scientists have been interested in understanding pollution from industries and how that pollution affects the Arctic.
