Student remembered as adventurous

By By Ana Breton February 19, 2008
To most of his friends, former U student Michael Pennels was the most adventurous person they had ever met. On one occasion, Pennels and a friend were set on seeing a certain concert. The problem? The concert was in Norway. They went anyway. When he was in high school, Pennels and several of his friends decided that what they really wanted for lunch one day was food from the In-N-Out restaurant in Las Vegas.

Chronicle’s view: The desensitization of mass shootings

February 19, 2008
Northern Illinois University experienced a tragedy Feb. 14. A gunman shot 21 people, killing five, before shooting himself. Like many other mass shootings that have occurred at an alarmingly increased rate, we are left to mourn the loss of lives and innocence without the answer to an eternally asked question -- why? By By Cody Brunner February 19, 2008
Let me introduce you to Player X. Despite being just 6 feet tall, Player X's basketball skills are undeniable. He always finishes around the rim and can shoot from anywhere on the floor. He hustles, plays tough defense and rarely commits a turnover. Player X is often described as a "pure shooter" with good reason.

Men’s Hoops: Borha, Tillie save the day

February 19, 2008
The likelihood of Kim Tillie and Lawrence Borha being named to the Runnin' Utes' next 16-man All-Century team is next to none. For either of them to be named one of the top 16 players of the last decade is a long shot at best. Still, the celebration at the Huntsman Center of 100 years of Runnin' Ute basketball could have been soured by San Diego State if it weren't for Tillie and Borha.

Gymnastics: Meet versus Washington a homecoming for Baskett

By By Jon Gilbert February 18, 2008
Kristina Baskett hopes to make Utah's meet at Washington on Saturday feel like a home meet as much as possible. Baskett grew up just outside of Seattle in Normandy Park, Wash. She decided to attend Utah because of the program's prestige, she said. But her family and friends still follow her gymnastics closely from a distance.
