Softball: Red Desert Classic kicks off new era

This weekend's trip to participate in the Red Desert Classic in St. George will kick off a new era for the U softball team. The Utes are hoping today's doubleheader against Wisconsin and Rhode Island will be the revival of an old era, one that featured two World Series appearances and a school-record 51 wins in 1994.

Interns learn the ropes of Hollywood

Students looking to work in the entertainment industry can get hands-on experience through an internship program offered at the U. The Ladder Program is a Los Angeles-based internship that allows students to learn about Hollywood by experiencing it. Heidi Heller Banks ran a similar program at Northwestern University for three years before beginning the Ladder Program at the U.

Men’s Hoops: Big win for Boylen’s Utes

Grit and toughness -- that's all Utah head coach Jim Boylen has asked of his team this season. On Wednesday night, guard Johnnie Bryant brought the grit and center Luke Nevill provided the toughness. Nevill scored six of his season-high 26 points during a crucial 90-second stretch in the second half and led the Utes to a much-needed 81-73 conference win over the league-leading UNLV Rebels.

Progressive conference will focus on Iraq, global warming, health care

Women’s Hoops: Utes get major lift from bench

The U women's basketball team found itself in a tight race with UNLV through 28 minutes of play Wednesday night before switching on its after-burners and blowing past the Rebels to pick up its 14th straight win. The Utes (19-3, 8-0) pulled out an 82-53 win in Las Vegas, but the game didn't have that certain blowout feel that the score suggests.

International Soccer: USA plays Mexico to a draw

Decked out in their new kits, the United States Men's National soccer team looked great, both in style and play. In the end, the new look USA could only muster a 2-2 tie against border rival Mexico in an international friendly on Wednesday night in Houston, Texas.
