OGDEN -- Whenever the Runnin' Utes got punched in the chops early last year it was a pretty good indication that a rout was on the horizon. Last night, the U men's basketball team got hit in the mouth early by the Weber State Wildcats and a landslide came tumbling after.

There's just something about Christmas time that makes me want to have tiny crackers with tiny pieces of salami with a tiny jar of mustard and a mint. Not too much! Don't make it too big! I don't want to spoil the spirit of Christmas by having crackers too big with too much salami and a normal-sized jar of mustard.

The U women's basketball team didn't have too much trouble sending South Dakota State (5-2) home after a 67-59 defeat at the Huntsman Center on Wednesday night. "We're really just trying to learn how to win and tonight I think we really toughed that one out," said Utah point guard Leilani Mitchell, who had 16 points, six assists and five rebounds.

Fighting for lower birth control costs

When birth control prices spiked earlier this year on campuses across the nation, Students for Choice was one of the few U groups to protest the change. The group encouraged students to call Jim Matheson, D-Utah, and urge him to support the Prevention Through Affordable Access Act, which would restore original discounts on contraceptives given to campuses.

Bennion Center turns 20

The Lowell Bennion Community Service Center is celebrating 20 years of service on campus by encouraging others to lend a hand. Over the next 20 weeks, the Bennion Center will be promoting service in the community and among students. The center released a handbook for the holidays to inform the public about convenient and easy service opportunities.

Some advice for winter break travel

During Thanksgiving break I traveled to be with family, as I'm sure a good portion of students at the U and elsewhere did. As I witnessed, and am now trying to forget, students were far from the only people traveling. Flying is always a nightmare during the holidays.

Mouse leads to death threat

After a mechanical engineering student reportedly made a death threat against a peer, administrators in the department stepped in and placed both students in counseling. Kent Udell, chair of the department of mechanical engineering, intervened after he was tipped that a student wanted to fight to the death, he said.
