Utes can’t take Jackrabbits lightly

Tonight the U women's basketball team is set to play its first game on the mainland since winning two of three in the Oahu Classic during the Thanksgiving weekend. Next up for the Utes is South Dakota State at the Huntsman Center tonight. Less-informed women's basketball fans might wonder, "Who is South Dakota State?" Head coach Elaine Elliott knows exactly who the Jackrabbits are.

Bennion Center turns 20

The Lowell Bennion Community Service Center is celebrating 20 years of service on campus by encouraging others to lend a hand. Over the next 20 weeks, the Bennion Center will be promoting service in the community and among students. The center released a handbook for the holidays to inform the public about convenient and easy service opportunities.

Police Report: Stolen banners, erratic behavior and rhyming harassment calls 11/2 A student reported he was being physically threatened and followed by another student near the Merrill Engineering Building. The student reportedly making the threats has been referred for counseling.

Licking the wounds In a game that will likely go down in the history of the rivalry as "Fourth-and-18," the Utes had every chance to win it late against rival BYU. But they didn't. The Utah offense struggled to get anything past BYU's smothering defense, scoring its only touchdown late in the fourth quarter and finishing the game with 244 total yards.

Utah schools looking to share data

Phil Smith wants to test methods of capturing harmful carbon dioxide gases, but he says without a new data link between Utah colleges he can't run the simulations needed to test his ideas. The program, called the Utah GRID system, would allow researchers at the U and Utah State University to digitally share information and computer software.

Sustainability office seeks intern

The U's Office of Sustainability is offering an internship position for Spring Semester. Interns will work with office staff, fellow interns and volunteers on a variety of projects and issues focused on campus sustainability. Craig Forster, interim director, said the position provides a "unique experience" for hands-on involvement tackling issues surrounding environmental sustainability.
