If you support equality, support ENDA

By By Anastasia Niedrich October 16, 2007
It is currently legal in 31 states to fire an employee based on their sexual orientation. It is also legal in 39 states to fire an employee based on their gender identity. It should come as no surprise to anyone, especially a gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or queer person living here, that Utah falls into both of these categories.

Wanted: starting shooting guard for the Utah Jazz. Must play defense, keep coach happy and carry the burden of being "the final piece of the puzzle." Outside shooting a bonus, but must not overdo it -- or prepare to ride the pine. So goes the want ad for perhaps the most scrutinized job vacancy in Utah since the days of Jeff Hornacek.

Cougars win on Crimson Court for the first time in eight years

October 15, 2007
Ute libero Connie Dangerfield had never experienced what happened on Saturday. Fellow seniors Whitney Webb and Kate Robison hadn't either. Neither had BYU outside hitter Chelsea Goodman. Even U head coach Beth Launiere hadn't experienced what happened over the weeke nd on Crimson Court during this century.

Utes offer lessons in life

By By Natalie Dicou October 15, 2007
I've learned more from the Utah football team this season than I've learned in any class during six years of college. No offense, professors. You taught me about photosynthesis and tried to convey the meaning of The Great Gatsby -- which is...um, something about a green light, I think -- but you simply can't compete with the Utah football team.

Ute briefs

Utes start swimming season off right Friday's Reddish Relays and the season-opening meet Saturday gave first-year head coach Greg Winslow something to smile about. The Ute men took home first place in the 300 back relay and the Ute women placed second in seven out of the ten events of the Reddish Relays held Friday night.

Voices: Dancing for a cause

By By Brooke Hathaway October 15, 2007
Last school year, the Associated Students of the University of Utah took on the considerable task of introducing a new event to an already event-laden campus. Despite initial skepticism, Rock the U raised more than $93,000 for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation in its inaugural year, a result unheard of in first years of similar events.

Would the real Rep. candidate please stand up?

October 15, 2007
I tend to enjoy the childish fodder politicians use against one another in attempts to beat out the competition. I loved the John Kerry flip-flop fiasco and Dan Rather's job security aside, even the Killian document scandal delighted me. Reading about the mud-slinging is like opening up a gossip magazine -- only, the magazine is The New York Times, and the gossip involves the trivial exchanges of people who are supposed to lead our nation.
