Shaun White has become the king of concrete and snow

By By Eric Williams September 25, 2007
When Shaun White got off the plane in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, he found the airport familiar, but the landscape was a lot less white than he remembered. As one of professional snowboarding's most dominant competitors, White is no stranger to Park City Mountain Resort's snow-covered park and pipe.

By By Jessica Dunn September 25, 2007
Are you someone who likes to claim you're an O.G.? How about one to always call someone else a poser? Milo Skate and Snowboard Shop has rights to do both. Milo is Utah's original snowboarding shop. It opened in 1984 selling snowboards and windsurfing gear.

College of health shows little confidence in dean

By By Rochelle McConkie September 25, 2007
Many faculty members in the College of Health expressed dissatisfaction with their dean in a survey taken last spring -- results that Dean James Graves attributes to anxieties caused by his efforts to reorganize the college and target external funding to make the college more research-oriented.

ROTC cadets sharpen combat, leadership skills

By By Arthur Raymond September 25, 2007
Five men in desert camouflage appear suddenly on the blind side of a curve on a dusty road in the hills north of Utah Lake, their flat-black rifles slung at their sides. "Road patrol training," explains Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Cadet Stephen Harmon, as he slows his truck and nods to the group.

Letter: Blaming Democrats for Iraq failures is getting old

September 24, 2007
Editor: Tiara Fuller is right ("Democrats hate America," Sept. 17). Certainly, the language and rhetoric used by MoveOn.org is questionable. The fact that they "slandered" an accomplished man such as Gen. Petraeus is objectionable to be certain, but no more objectionable than the fact that numerous Republican candidates have taken massive donations from defense contractors, who are reaping massive profits from a war which has cost the lives of more than 3,700 American men and women serving bravely in the armed forces of the United States.

By By Jon Gilbert September 24, 2007
An hour before kickoff Saturday night in Rice-Eccles Stadium, Kyle Brown's game plan got flipped upside down. With striker Fabian Espindola feeling pain in his groin, Brown received word from coach Jason Kreis that he would start. Brown adjusted accordingly.

Volleyball digs out win

By By Natalie Dicou September 24, 2007
Whether the U women's volleyball team was willing to admit it, Friday's match against Colorado State was a must-win. After trailing in all four games, the Utes rallied to win the second, third and fourth games of the match and topped the Rams 3-1 at home.

Tables turned for Rebels, Utes

September 24, 2007
LAS VEGAS -- Mike Sanford waited three years for last Saturday night. As a team, UNLV waited 28. Saturday night, the cessation of UNLV victories over the U football team was put to rest at 11 games with the Rebels' 28-0 upset over the visiting Utes. The win, however, created a new problem for Sanford.

In search of a $70 million apology

By By Lauren Mueller September 24, 2007
On March 9, 2005, Dan Rather signed off of his final broadcast as lead anchor and managing editor of the "CBS Evening News" with an appeal to courage -- courage in the face of physical harm and courage to stand up for truth. He left, or more accurately, was forced out, amid a flurry of controversy after the broadcast of unsubstantiated documents calling into question the military duty (or lack thereof) of the President.

Johnson’s efforts fall short

September 24, 2007
LAS VEGAS -- Doctors cleared Brian Johnson to play against UNLV. Kyle Whittingham didn't want to the chance if he didn't have to. After a scoreless first half, the Utes had no choice. In the end, it didn't matter either way. Despite getting their highly touted quarterback back, Johnson and the Utes could do no right and lost to UNLV, 27-0, to drop to 0-2 in the Mountain West Conference standings for the first time since 2002.
