Volleyball looks to extend conference winning streak to 17 games

This week, the U volleyball team will be trading in one challenge for another. The Utes will be turning in their most demanding pre-conference schedule for a target the size of the 16-0 regular season record they compiled in Mountain West Conference play.

Program teaches women defense skills

More than 30 sorority members left the Aline Wilmot Skaggs Biology Building on Monday night with a new set of martial arts skills that can potentially help them disable a man in mere seconds. Erin Weed, the 29-year-old founder and sole employee of Girls Fight Back, a self-defense lecture program for women, spent two hours teaching members of sororities how to defend themselves in the presence of an attacker.

$6 million given to business school

The David Eccles School of Business received $6 million yesterday to fund cutting-edge ideas that could turn more U students into inventors. The Sorenson Legacy Foundation, a charitable company founded by local inventor James LeVoy Sorenson, donated the sum to finance the school's new interdisciplinary center for innovation and discovery, which is now up and running.
