Cancel Crimson Nights, before it’s too late…

By By Steve Coons August 29, 2007
I harbor no deep, malevolent resentment toward carnivals in general; in fact, pandemonium shadow shows have hardly featured in my life at all. So don't mistake me for a callous claustrophobe shouting down curses on carnivals from on high, only to immediately strangle the last unicorn upon cancellation of the last carnival (hopefully not Crimson Nights), with the lifeless (and particularly pliant, I imagine) corpse of some young scoundrel intent on losing himself in a hall of mirrors.

Football front four looking to keep offenses in line

By By Mandeep Gill August 29, 2007
Depth at the defensive line is not a concern for the Utah coaching staff in 2007. Experience, however, is another story. "The depth of the unit is the strength of the unit -- particularly at the defensive end spots; we feel we have got five guys (who) can really play," said head coach Kyle Wittingham.

By By Jason Peterson August 29, 2007
For the Mountain West Conference, the 2007 football season begins Thursday with UNLV traveling to Logan to take on Utah State while Oregon State hosts the Utes. The question is: When does the season begin for fans of Mountain West Conference football? Since the launching of The MountainWest Sports Network (commonly known as the mtn.

Letter: Pappas must take back what he said about mine owner Murray

August 29, 2007
Editor: I have some questions for Nicholas Pappas: What do you even know about mining ("Mining regulations' dirty history," Aug. 28)? You have successfully used the Tribune and United Mine Workers of America as your sources but lack the knowledge of what retreat mining even is.

Preoccupied by Iraq, Bush is still ignoring New Orleans

August 29, 2007
Katrina -- you remember her, right? She's the storm that nearly sent one of the most recognized and celebrated cities in our nation back to the stone age. I remember being at the airport to greet the first group of evacuees to Salt Lake City. One of those people was Phillip Johnson, who had no idea what his wife's fate would be after he put her on a boat with only enough room for one.
