Cancel Crimson Nights, before it’s too late…

By By Steve Coons August 29, 2007
I harbor no deep, malevolent resentment toward carnivals in general; in fact, pandemonium shadow shows have hardly featured in my life at all. So don't mistake me for a callous claustrophobe shouting down curses on carnivals from on high, only to immediately strangle the last unicorn upon cancellation of the last carnival (hopefully not Crimson Nights), with the lifeless (and particularly pliant, I imagine) corpse of some young scoundrel intent on losing himself in a hall of mirrors.

RSL returns home looking for just its third win

By By Jon Gilbert August 29, 2007
Real Salt Lake won't have too much time to dwell on its most recent loss. Real (2-11-6) returns to Rice-Eccles Stadium tonight to face the Kansas City Wizards after losing to Chivas USA 1-0 Sunday night. The club continued a frustrating lack of scoring that makes wins all the more difficult to come by.

Suspended fraternity returns

By By Parker Williams August 28, 2007
The U chapter of Phi Delta Theta fraternity is returning to campus after the chapter was disbanded two years ago because of a hazing complaint. The International Fraternity removed the Utah Alpha chapter's 91-year-old charter at the U in 2005, to the disappointment of both fraternity members and local alumni.

Professors speak on mine collapse

By By Rochelle McConkie August 28, 2007
Despite the perception portrayed by the intensive news coverage of the Crandall Canyon mine collapse, U professors said mining isn't an overly hazardous profession, although an increased dependance on coal has led miners into deeper, more dangerous territory.

A new U tradition is born

By By Mandeep Gill August 28, 2007
Utah football is not just about building traditions by winning bowl games and making progress on-field. It is also about building traditions off the field. Starting this season, the U football team will participate in the Ute Walk. Two-and-a-half hours before the kickoff of every home game, the team will be walking from the Smith Center down Guardsman Way to Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Passing grade

By By Cody Brunner August 28, 2007
Last season, Utah offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig didn't fool around too often. Former quarterback Brett Ratliff would take a snap and then get it to one of the team's "playmakers" as quickly as he could with short passes or handoffs. The casual Utah fan might have considered that kind of west coast-style offense to be a bit boring -- particulary because of the lack of any deep throws.

Crimson View opening delayed

By By Jennifer Winters August 28, 2007
The Crimson View Bistro, a dining facility on the fourth floor of the Union, will resume business Wednesday, Sept. 5. The installation of a sprinkler system and upgrade of the fire alarms caused the restaurant's opening to be delayed by two weeks. "We wanted to open properly, not under construction with holes in the ceiling," said Reggie Conerly, resident district manager for Chartwells, the U's contracted food provider.
