By By Clayton Norlen August 27, 2007
A new interdisciplinary graduate certificate program centered on disability studies is being offered for the first time at the U. The 15-credit-hour certificate is offered to graduate students from all disciplines at the U. The introductory course required for the certificate explores disability studies from a variety of perspectives and examines topics on disability, from public policy to first-hand accounts of living with a so-called disability in today's world.

Countdown to kickoff: Three days!

By By Natalie Dicou August 27, 2007
If you're a college football fan, today is the equivalent of what Dec. 22 is to a kid. Three more days. With the first weekend of college football nearly here, the anticipation is beginning to take on a new form. In a way, the wait is getting easier.

Letter: Pappas is the cat’s meow

August 27, 2007
Editor: After reading Nicholas Pappas' column ("Vive la rvolution!" Aug. 21), I was totally flabbergasted. A Chronicle writer who actually appears to know something about both history and current events? Hardly the usual Chronicle opinion dribble (e.g., Tiara C.

Voices: How to choose a career

By By Jim White August 27, 2007
Choosing a major was one of the biggest stresses I faced at the U. I can't tell you how much time and energy I spent trying to figure out what to major in and what to do with my life. Even though the U volleyball team didn't exactly get its season started the way it would've liked to, just getting it started was significant for the Utes. The Utes fell to No. 5 UCLA 3-0 (30-23, 30-21, 30-27) on Friday to open up the AVCA Showcase in Omaha, Neb.

State Legislature should pass Henry’s Law

By By Anastasia Niedrich August 27, 2007
On Wednesday, Aug. 22, a special session of the Utah State Legislature was held to discuss two very different topics -- school district splits and animal torture. I have to admit, I didn't think that, even if a special session were convened, an animal torture bill (i.

Henry’s law doesn’t deserve special session

By By Tiara Fuller August 27, 2007
It seems everyone wants his or her fifteen minutes of fame these days. Even our own governor can't resist the temptation. Gov. Jon Huntsman is cashing in on the Michael Vick controversy and has called the Utah State Legislature to a special emergency session.

Letter: Professors show no love for students

August 27, 2007
Editor: While I don't think professors are having backroom meetings with publishers, there seems to be no empathy from some of the professors. Why do they keep forcing us to buy a 300 page book for $190 -- of which only 40 pages get utilized -- then change editions every semester, making buyback a joke? This is a call out to all professors: Show a little empathy.

Professor given Mormon history award

By By Clayton Norlen August 24, 2007
Robert Goldberg, a professor in the history department in the College of Humanities, received the Thomas Kane Award from the Mormon History Association earlier this year for his defense of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and raising awareness of anti-Mormon sentiment on campus and outside of the state.
