I find it alarming that Patrick Reimherr is so willing to actively push a fee increase without proven student support. If, as he says, broad student support does exist, then he ought to have no problem with a general referendum on the issue.

We have been reading for months now about fees being increased to improve sustainability. Today, I read another article in The Chronicle, ("Sustainability fee passes temporarily; ASUU must reconcile versions of bill," March 11). But what are these so-called sustainable projects that this money would go toward?

If everyone blindly believed the rhetoric of Bill O'Reilly or the extreme claims of the online newspaper The Huffington Post, our country would be extremely divided and misinformed. This is why taking these pundits with a grain of salt is imperative.

While Passi has a blatant agenda, scientists have an objective view on matters, basing their decisions and understanding on data and information. Ironically, Passi is entering the field as an opponent to his own career.

We've already seen results from the Utah Indoor Clean Air Act and The Truth campaign. It is inevitable that a smoking ban on campus would produce positive results. With all of the other influences in a young person's life, smoking should not be an option.

So by all means, continue complaining about ASUU. But don't do it under the impression that ASUU doesn't help students. Because as crazy as they may seem, they still love U.

Now that the fee has passed, the Trustees should ensure in their next meeting that such a media council would not waste student fees or interfere with the independence of student media.

All degrees serve a purpose. However, the fine adjustment between life and real life is more fully realized in the humanities. Don't allow the popular major trends to set your course of study. Humanities majors need not live in fear.

Barack Obama reversed the U.S. stem cell policy Monday. This is just another "change" in the wrong direction. In under two months, Obama has managed to use his power to take money from my wallet and the wallet of every taxpaying American to help end the lives of living human beings.

Allow me the opportunity to correct the information published in Friday's edition of The Daily Utah Chronicle, ("Parties punished for flawed financial disclosures," March 6). It seems to me that Michael McFall was not attending the same hearing that I was, considering the information that he presented in his article.
