For the past three years, the Utah gymnastics team has come up short of Georgia at Nationals, finishing second each year. This year has the potential to be different, and many inside the Dumke Center credit this to the chemistry of this year's team.

It has been a long layover for the Red Rocks, who haven't competed since their season finale back on March 20 against BYU. In that meet, Utah set its season-high in the all-around, scoring 197.80, which was good enough to be the second-highest score by any team all season long.

The 2009 season was one to remember for Red Rock fans8212;they saw Utah as the No. 1 team for part of the year and broke the NCAA record for average attendance per home meet, which they'd set more than 15 years ago.

Baskett and the Red Rocks will travel to Baskett's hometown of Seattle for their NCAA West regional meet as they try to earn a place in the NCAA Championships.

After the first rotation, Utah led the Cougars 49.375 to 48.5 and the Red Rocks never looked back, winning their regular-season finale by setting a season-high 197.8, compared to the Cougars' 192.725.

A capacity crowd showed up to say goodbye to Kim and Baskett and watch the Red Rocks beat No. 5 Florida, 197.025 to 196.00, for the first time in three regular season meetings.

"Summertime and the living's easy." That might be true for Sublime in their 1996 hit "Doin' Time," but for Utah gymnast Jamie Deetscreek, summer was anything but easy. That's not to say it wasn't rewarding.

For the past four years, Red Rocks fans have had the pleasure of watching seniors Nina Kim and Kristina Baskett perform in the Huntsman Center. Friday night, Kim and Baskett will be introduced in front of their home fans for the last time.

The Red Rocks have dipped below the 196.500 mark only once, and that was in their first meet against UCLA, when Utah finished with a 196.175, its lowest score of the season. In that meet, Utah scored a 49.025 on the balance beam, which wasn't bad for the first meet of the season. But in the following weeks, the Red Rocks, by their standards, struggled on the apparatus and failed to break the 49.000 mark for two straight weeks.

The Red Rocks came back off the bye week Friday against Arizona State and did so in front of one of the largest crowds of the year8212;14,453. Friday night's crowd beat Utah's season average of 13,616 by an astonishing 837 fans.
