On Saturday afternoon, Utah did something that no team has ever accomplished in Mountain West Conference history--winning the tournament as the final seed in the conference. The road was longer than most, but the Utes overcame adversity to take the title and earn their first bid to the NCAA Tournament since 1960.

Utah wrapped up conference competition this past weekend with the 2009 Mountain West Conference Championships, held in Laramie, Wyo. Utah finished with 76 points, thanks to two event wins and four top five finishes on the final day of competition, which was good enough for fifth place.

The Utah women's softball team wrapped up a rocky conference season May 9 with a 5-2 loss to the New Mexico Lobos.

Early in the season, it seemed the Utah baseball team might miss this season's Mountain West Conference Tournament for the first time. Utah was 3-9 in the first half of conference play, losing five in extra innings. It would take something big for the Utes to get back into it mentally.

This past summer, the Utah women's volleyball team lost an important member of its squad.

The Utah women's basketball team locked up its place in the NCAA tournament with a 63-58 victory over the San Diego State Aztecs to win the MWC championship.

After qualifying for the Super Six on April 16 via a tiebreaker, there was no storybook ending for Greg Marsden and the Red Rocks.

If the old adage "defense wins championships," is true, crown Utah and San Diego State as co-MWC Tournament champions.
