Letter to the Editor: Shooting Holes in a Pro-Gun Argument

Editor: I'd like to respond to Wilson Fatongia's Jan. 22 letter to the editor, "Weapons at U Detrimental to Focus" in which he argues against the logic of permitting guns on campus. Far be it from me to poke fun at a well thought-out or cohesively delivered argument.

Man With Scissors, Headless Legislator and Frozen Meat Wielding Perpetrators Prove Olympic Insecurity

In a surprising breech of security last week, Olympic Village volunteers admitted into the area a man with scissors, a headless woman with a concealed weapon and a suspicious looking woman armed with frozen meat products. Though they turned out to be the Village barber (Youhaav Splitendds), a visiting legislator (Ivana ScrooUover) and a McDonald's employee (Patty Mcflurry), the Salt Lake Organizing Committee considered the invasion a chance to re-think Village security.

U Wins On The Road, Streak 11

January 22, 2002
It was a prosperous three day weekend for the Utah men's basketball team, as it came up with a pair of MWC wins in its first road trip of the year. The two wins extend Utah's winning streak to 11 games, dating back to a Dec. 4 loss to Arizona State. Utah (14-3, 4-0) slammed New Mexico (12-5, 2-1) 81-51 at the Pit Monday night, two days after a 63-57 overtime win over Air Force (7-10, 1-3).

Netters Start Spring with Two Victories

As he attempts to build the U women's tennis team into a competitive force in the Mountain West Conference, coach John Tsumas could not be more pleased with the way the Utes finished off their first two regular-season matches. Utah State and Air Force were two of the teams last year's injury-depleted Utes did beat, so both were looking for some revenge this past weekend.

U Student Casts the University in Film Epic

University of Utah film student, Sark Rickles, has a dream: "I want to make the next 'Star Wars,' but without all those Ewoks or fucking Jar Jar. I mean, c'mon George, what were you thinking?" Such are the hopes of today's up-and-coming sci-fi directors, most of whom?despite being deluded into thinking "Babylon 5" was well written, and that the Warshawski brothers have artistic vision?still consider topping Lucas' granddaddy of epics with their own rip-off "saga" the ultimate geek goal.
