Winter Olympic Lecture Series Comes to a Close

The Winter Olympic Lecture Series concluded Thursday with Robert Barney's presentation of "Flame and Fanfare: Olympic Celebration of People and Athletes." This lecture, subtitled "Ritualization, Institutionalization, Commodification: The Olympic Torch relay and Victory Award Ceremonies," traces the evolution of the torch relay and the medal award ceremony.

That expectation came true on April 4, 1968, when James Earl Ray shot King at a Memphis motel, one day after he predicted his own death.

BYU freshmen skip dorm life, head off campus

PROVO?Despite the amenities of living on campus, which are enough to entice most freshmen, about 2,000 at Brigham Young University skip life in the dorms and head straight to off-campus housing. While most freshmen have the convenience of three meals prepared for them on a daily basis, free high-speed Internet connection and a less than five-minute walk to campus, those freshmen living off-campus go without such benefits.

Woman B said woman A had opened her car door into woman B's car and when woman B took steps to prevent it from happening again, woman A became irate.

A massive tuition hike is on the horizon. Maybe student leaders can stop it, maybe they can't. Because tuition hikes are bad for students and bad for the economy, students must be hopeful that it can be stopped. Tuition increases are a part of higher education, but astronomical, unrealistic tuition hikes hurt students in every subsequent year, not just the year the increases start.

UEC Changes Deadline

Challenge officials moved the deadline for executive summaries, originally set for Jan. 18 to Jan. 30 at 5 p.m. Business professors at Brigham Young University had the most sway in the change.
