U Students Share Holiday Traditions

The snow is falling, holiday events are starting and families are beginning to gather together. It is the most wonderful time of the year?for family traditions. It's not traditions like arguing with siblings about who got the most presents, or fighting over who gets the wishbone, but traditions that families undertake each year in order to bond with one another and create memories that last a lifetime.

Errant U.S. Bomb Kills 3, Injures 19 Soldiers

WASHINGTON?Three American soldiers were killed and 19 wounded in Afghanistan Wednesday when a U.S. bomb missed its Taliban target. The bomb, carrying 2,000 pounds of explosives, landed about 100 yards from the soldiers' position north of Kandahar, where the Taliban is making its last stand against Afghan opposition forces.

Bush Urges World Rules for Support

WASHINGTON?President Bush urged world leaders Wednesday to join the United States in demanding that Yasser Arafat crack down on Palestinian terrorists striking against Israel. "He must show leadership. Now is his time," Bush said, speaking of the Palestinian leader during an Oval Office session with Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik.

The Eternal Question: 12-Page Paper of Multiple Choice Exam?

I used to prefer writing papers to taking traditional final exams. But after this semester, I'll take a traditional two-hour, 50 question, multiple choice, short answer, essay exam any day. The lure of replacing traditional exams with a take home paper is enticing on its face.

Kofoed Earns All-West Team Recognition

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America named U senior Amy Kofoed to the All-West third team for the third consecutive year. The honor comes after Utah was again overlooked for the NCAA Tournament, and following the departure of Kofoed's coach, Amy Winslow.

The Utah men's basketball team's road woes continued in Phoenix Tuesday night, as the Utes (3-3) dropped to 0-2 on the road with a 71-62 loss to Arizona State (4 -2). Utah followed its formula from the loss at Alabama, as it started the game turnover prone and with cold shooting from the field.

Boy Kills Teacher in Alt. High School

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.?A 17 year-old student at an alternative high school stabbed a counselor to death Wednesday during an argument in a classroom, authorities said. The youth, identified as Corey Ramos, ran from the building and was arrested by police about a half-mile away, Hampden County prosecutor William Bennett said.

U Coach and Player Get National Recognition

A player who can perform to the best of his or her abilities in the limelight is usually the premiere player on the team. Winning matches, creating a better overall court atmosphere and being the difference-maker that leads the team to victory are all qualities of such a player.

Ever envisioned a 40 something, white bread, midwestern male hooked up with a leather-clad dominatrix who keeps a closet full of studded whips and handcuffs just for kicks and giggles? OK, I guess it is just me. It's not a constant vision, though; I only get that mental image when I'm thinking about Chicago Bulls coach Tim Floyd, mind you.
