Students Can Strut Their Stuff at the Post Theater Red Carpet Event

Students Can Strut Their Stuff at the Post Theater Red Carpet Event

There is one perk to living in Utah during late January, and that is the Sundance Film Festival. For two weeks, the red carpet is rolled out and the rich and famous flock to our state for screenings of some of the year’s best independent films. On Wednesday night on the U campus, however, it’s not just celebrities that will be getting the red carpet treatment. There will be a special red carpet event before the screening of “The Diplomat” at the Post Theater on Wednesday, Jan. 27. The red carpet will be rolled out before the screening starts at 7 p.m., encouraging you to “dress up and walk the red carpet for your own Sundance experience!”

The event is taking place as part of The Party, in collaboration with the Arts Pass at the U. The Party aims to host social events around campus that encourage students to participate in the arts scene. Events take place all over campus to support events such as film screenings and art openings and to help students make friends and plan social gatherings focused on arts and culture. The events are all put on by students in the College of Fine Arts and tickets to the events are free or nearly free with the Arts Pass (also known as a UCard).

The red carpet event itself will be put on by students from the U Department of Film and Media Arts. The red carpet experience is available to anybody who chooses to attend the screening, so plan on showing up a couple of minutes early to really have time to strut your stuff. After walking the red carpet you will have the opportunity to view the screening of “The Diplomat” and to participate in a Q&A with director David Holbrooke after the show.

The screening, as well as the red carpet walk, are free to the public, not just to U students. So bring your family and your friends, or make some when you get there, and have an elegant evening. The Post Theater will be the place to be to get a little taste of Sundance — just look out for the paparazzi.
