A day for dissent

August 30, 2006
While numerous U students and staff members were among the thousands of protesters and supporters that converged on downtown Salt Lake City yesterday, one student had the rare opportunity to make her voice heard over the sea of demonstrators. Senior Erica Torres took the stage just before Mayor Rocky Anderson at the "We the People for Peace and Justice" rally held at Washington Square.

Zundel needs to go

August 30, 2006
Editor: Would you please fire Aaron Zundel? His articles are a waste of the otherwise very enjoyable Chrony. He has nothing useful to say, and his articles serve only to irritate everyone. He's a lot like Kellen Wilson in that regard, except that he's on your payroll.

Salt Lake City puts its foot down

By By The Chronicle's View August 30, 2006
Who says Utah's voting populace doesn't matter? Thousands of people, including several U students, showed up in Washington Square for an anti-Bush rally on Wednesday, one of a number of organized protests in downtown Salt Lake City that accompanied the first overnight-presidential visit since George W.

Don’t fret-the season’s only days away

By By Kyle Nelson August 30, 2006
In my childhood, the most depressing day of the year was the day after Christmas. All the presents had been opened. All the anticipation was gone. I have a similar feeling after my fantasy football draft. But just as your mom would tell you that everything would be all right, that you would be able to play with your toys for the next couple months, The Commish is here to tell you the same thing.

Gridiron deathmatch

Isn't technology wonderful? Over the last 100 years, we've seen airplanes, space travel and, most importantly, breakfast cereals that offer twice the chocolatey goodness of their forerunners with only half the calories. While all of these contributions are well and good, there is now an invention on the horizon, the importance of which falls somewhere between the advent of the polio vaccine and the creation of the wheel.

Living the dream

By By Tony Pizza August 30, 2006
Most Ute fans become aware of their love affair with the U at a very young age, but it can be difficult to remember the exact moment. For some people, it might have been when Mike Anderson ran for a U football record 254 yards against Fresno State, or the U's back-to-back 34-31 victories over archrival BYU in 1993 and 1994.

Only the Chrony still cares about P.O. overspending

August 30, 2006
Editor: ?? Disaster! Debacle! Arrogant, egotistical disregard! These are just a few of the sensational words and phrases used to describe the most successful Associated Students of the University of Utah program of the '05-'06 school year in Aaron Zundel's editorial.

Salvo rains fire for Utes

By By Cody Brunner August 30, 2006
If Airial Salvo were a quarterback, her average stat-line might look something like this: 33-for-35 for 400 yards and five touchdowns. Those numbers are impressive, huh? Well, that word explains Salvo pretty well, since as a sophomore, she's already one of the top players on the 2006 U volleyball team.

Pass or fail

By By Cody Brunner August 30, 2006
After a competitive weekend in Florida, the U volleyball team finally knows that it can compete with the best teams in the NCAA. "We're four points away from being one of the top four teams in the nation," middle blocker Emillie Toone said. "We just have to keep working hard so that we can be up there to beat them next time.
