Hinckley Institute delays poll results

The Hinckley Institute of Politics will not release the results of the straw poll until Monday. The results were originally scheduled to come out Thursday.

Hinckley Institute Political Programs Coordinator Amy Code said in a statement that the decision to delay release of the results was because of the attention focused on the nation’s economic crisis and possible cancellation of the presidential debate scheduled for today.

Since Sept. 22, U students have been casting ballots online and in classrooms, marking their preferences in the races for president, governor and state legislature and indicating their level of interest in the presidential campaign.

The poll is intended as a quick and easy way to get a measure of what U students are thinking with about a month to go until the general election and as a tool to engage students in the process.

This is the second straw poll conducted by the Hinckley Institute. The first poll was conducted in Fall 2007 as the primary campaign for the presidency got underway.

Results of the latest poll will be posted on the Hinckley Institute of Politics Web site.
