Sigma Chi hosts blood drive

By Lana Groves, Asst. News Editor

The Sigma Chi fraternity is working with the Utah Red Cross to host a blood drive at its house on Greek Row today.

The fraternity, which organizes various philanthropic events every year, set up the blood drive after one member advocated helping out the Red Cross as part of its annual service.

“We talk about putting our arms around each other as Sigma Chis and sometimes that means giving blood from our arms,” said fraternity public relations chair Mitch Dumke. “It’s not like you’re just donating money8212;it’s something from you.”

The U has already filled slots for donors but is accepting walk-ins from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday. The fraternity members hope the event will collect 40 pints of blood.

“It’s pretty much booked solid already,” said Matt Hansel, chapter president.

Hansel said the fraternity wants to collect as much blood as possible.

To learn more about the blood drive or to donate, call Hansel at 801-870-3439 or visit the house during donation hours at 1395 East 100 South.
