Letter to the Editor: ASUU Sucks Party Wins Again

By , , , and March 13, 2003
Editor: As the elections end, the ASUU Sucks Party thanks everyone for its landslide victory in the primaries: 234 votes and 25,000 non-votes. A few observations on our victory: (1) Many people complained about being "assaulted" by candidates. Getting people to care is great, but this has the reverse effect.

Racism Is a Phenomenon With Local Roots

Last summer, I had an experience that every white American suburbanite ought to have. The shameful thing is that I had to travel to Germany to get it. The experience went as follows: I first met Eva Moore on a study abroad program to Stuttgart, Germany last summer.

Smart: Neighbors Joyful, Relieved to Have 15-Year-Old Back

By , , , and March 13, 2003
After nine months of agonizing worry and visions of worst-case scenarios, the Federal Heights community, from which Elizabeth Smart was abducted, exploded in celebration upon word that the 15-year-old was found alive Wednesday afternoon. "When I first got here, there was nobody for me to hug, and that's all I wanted to do, was to hug somebody," said Charlotte Hamblin, a family friend and neighbor.

By , , , and March 13, 2003
With the final election results for next year's student body president and vice president positions being announced later tonight, the heads of both campaigns are confident in the future of their parties. "I think the greatest thing we did was picking the people we did who worked with us.

Postseason Conf. Tourneys Don’t Send True Winner

By , , , and March 12, 2003
Monday night, I watched the San Diego Toreros defeat the West Coast Conference regular season champion Gonzaga--a team that handed the U its worst loss (71-52)--in the WCC Tournament, thus securing an automatic bid for USD to the grandaddy of them all, the NCAA Tournament.

Johnsen Out for MWC Tourney

By , , , and March 12, 2003
In three previous tries, senior Britton Johnsen had never advanced to the championship of a conference tournament. This year will be no exception. Johnsen, an all-district, second-team all-MWC and former conference player of the year, will not accompany the U men's basketball team to Las Vegas for the MWC Tournament.

U Mayor Sets Record Straight

By , , , and March 12, 2003
Dear Editor: As Mayor of the University Student Apartment Resident Council, I feel the need to clarify the issues in The Chronicle's March 11 article, "Parties Continue to Debate Campus Issues." It is essential that married students and students with families understand who did what and for whom.

ASUU Election

By [email protected] Editor:I have been a student at the University of Utah for a long, long time. In all those years, I have voted, except this one. Why not? I do not feel there is any...

Whitticisms: All We Are Saying Is Give War a Chance

By , , , and March 12, 2003
Doves are the birds typically used to describe those against military action, but recently I've concluded "ostrich" might be a better term. Allow me to provide some ornithological elaboration. Rather than face approaching danger, the ostrich sticks his head into the earth, hoping to conceal his whereabouts.

Gov’t Candidates Address Issues Of Alumni Assoc.

By , , , and March 12, 2003
In their fifth post-primary debate of the year, the candidates for next year's student government offices took a lighthearted approach to campus issues in a Student Alumni Association-sponsored debate. Presidential candidate Adrian Johnson from the "All Aboard" Party and Summit Party hopeful Jake Werrett were asked to recite the lyrics to "Utah Man," the U's official fight song.
