Freedom for All Means Tolerance for Choice

These days "freedom" is a word we hear a lot. From the President on down, Americans often praise this cherished ideal. For my own part, I am glad to live in a society whose civic norms and institutions aim to make freedom possible for all its members. I would certainly not deny that this goal remains tragically unrealized for large numbers of people.

Letter to the Editor: Too Many Mouths

By , , , and March 11, 2003
Editor: While I agree that education should be the highest priority of state government, I think The Chronicle's March 7 editorial "U Survives for Another Year" questions some decisions that shouldn't be questioned. The two examples The Chronicle cited were the capitol building and road funds.

Letter to the Editor: Campaign Signs Out of Control

By , , , and March 11, 2003
Editor: I was walking to my car from the library today and I stopped at the cross section between the library and the OSH buildings. The U ski team reached the summit of collegiate skiing's Mount Everest and was crowned NCAA champion Saturday in Hanover, N.H. The Utes won the national title for the 11th time in school history--the first time since 1997--after scoring a combined 682 points over the four-day championship to blow out the field.

Letter to the Editor: High School Shenanigans Return

By , , , and March 10, 2003
Editor: It's interesting to see ASUU campaign posters littering the campus this time of year. It's like going back to high school, witnessing a bunch of students vying for popularity rights. Generally, the candidates' qualifications are that mommy and daddy gave them some money so that they can distribute ridiculous-looking stickers, dress up vehicles and act like everybody's best friend for only two weeks.
