Stay Off the Drugs

By By [email protected] and By [email protected] October 9, 2002

By [email protected] I was extremely annoyed by the column by Jennifer Mitchell in Tuesday's issue entitled, "Seek Professional Help". Jennifer wrote about her ADD:"Not a huge problem in my life, but...

Minnesota Vikings Franchise Has Turned Into a Nightmare

By By Chris Bellamy and By Chris Bellamy October 8, 2002
It may have taken until the fifth week of the season, but better late than never, right? Finally, it was the kind of week Vikings fans had been waiting for: Zero turnovers. Zero dropped passes. Zero penalties. They were practically perfect! And most importantly, after starting the season with four straight embarrassing losses, the Vikes didn't lose this week.

Let Free Speech Decide Issues

By and October 8, 2002
Editor: The Oct. 7 letter to the editor, "Censorship Not All That Bad" uses an example that contradicts the actuality of the situation and the arguments that call for removing material from public schools that few, if any, would consider inappropriate. Jonathan Richardson tries to show how objectionable material can be forced on a person when it is unwarranted and undesired.

Real Empowerment

By and October 8, 2002
Editor: In reading the Oct. 2 letter by Alicia Ingersoll, "Not Your Mother's Feminism," I couldn't help but be a little puzzled by the claim that women have to display their sexuality to obtain empowerment. I feel that clothing has little, if anything, to do with empowerment.

Risks of Acting Alone on Iraq

By and October 8, 2002
Editor: In light of U.S. foreign policy's penchant for double-standards, the United States' notoriously arrogant claim to immunity regarding international law and its wholly unwelcome involvement and presence in the Middle East, anti-American sentiment is more pervasive than ever.

Letter to the Editor: Recycling-It’s Not About Cost

By By Dana Robison and By Dana Robison October 7, 2002
Editor: I was thrilled to read the Oct. 1 article about ASUU's efforts to integrate the U campus in a cooperative recycling system, "Students Fight to Improve Recycling." Most of my efforts to incorporate recycling into everyday routine as a student and an employee of the U have been met with lukewarm enthusiasm at best and downright opposition at worst.

Letter to the Editor: Censorship Not All That Bad

By and October 6, 2002
Editor: I want to present an alternate view on the issue of censorship. Quite simply, I like it, up to a certain point. It provides services to me that I value. The core issues, as I see them, are the right of free speech and the right to be free of free speech.

Letter to the Editor: Rethinking Iraq

By and October 6, 2002
Editor: I applaud Sheena McFarland's Sept. 24 article, "Iraqi Student Opposes Bush's Invasion," and admire Hiba Al-Zahawi for sharing her experience of the Persian Gulf War, and for voicing her opposition to the Bush administration's push for a war. I was struck by Al-Zahawi's observation that "There doesn't seem to be much concern or reaction from the U.

Letter to the Editor: Not Your Mother’s Feminism

By By Alicia Ingersoll and By Alicia Ingersoll October 1, 2002
Editor: The Sept. 26 letter by Stephen Bair, "Stop Dressing Like an Object," was very disturbing. His argument that women are treated like objects because they dress like objects is the same argument used by rapists who say that women ask to be raped. The women of Generation X were raised with Barbie dolls and Charlie's Angels.
