Bush dislikes children

By By Nicholas Pappas October 5, 2007
I've never been a fan of small children. It might have something to do with living amongst piles of them in the Sandy suburbs. In an age of discovery, they look for higher and higher pitches in their screams, believing in their little hearts that the more noise they make, the more attention they'll get.

Game Guide: The Edge

By By Cody Brunner October 5, 2007
Quarterback The Utah offense received a huge shot in the arm last week with the return of Brian Johnson, but the junior still wasn't playing 100 percent. Offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig refused to call more than one option play, and Johnson threw a pair of interceptions.

Limping into Logan

By By Natalie Dicou October 5, 2007
The same injury bug that has ravaged the U football team has started nipping at the U women's soccer team. Two more Utah players were added to the list of casualties Wednesday following a match at Utah Valley State College. Already playing without Utah's two standout players -- goal scorer Adele Letro and assist extraordinaire Kelly Isleib -- two more Utes suffered injuries during the in-state showdown.

The Word: Chronicle’s guide to the SLC music scene

By By Makena Walsh October 5, 2007
October 4 Saves The Day $15 6 p.m. Kilby Court (741 S. 330 West) The high-pitched squawking of Christopher Conley is the perfect accoutrement to Saves The Day's soft-punk stylings. Conley's violent lyrics are concealed by the group's layering of distorted guitars that thrum carefully crafted catchy pop melodies.

Give me real news or give me death

October 4, 2007
On Monday, a good friend of mine passed away. Real news had been one of my closest companions for many years. When I was bored in class, it entertained me. When I needed something to write about, it gave me a worthy topic. And when I wanted to know what was going on in the world that should matter to me as a human being, real news would inform me.

New dinosaur discovered

October 4, 2007
With a body 30-feet-long and a mouth full of more than 800 teeth, a new dinosaur discovered in Southern Utah might sound like a formidable killer. Not so. This duck-billed dinosaur is not a carnivore, and might have shied away from red meat in favor of a plant-filled diet.

By By Arthur Raymond October 4, 2007
U President Michael Young is expected to officially announce the creation of the new Office of Sustainability today at ASUU's Environmental Impact Day event. Young has charged this office with advocating and coordinating sustainability efforts on campus. They will also work to support initiatives implemented by work groups focused on sustainability and act as an information clearinghouse.

Despite absense of one-two combo, Utes win big

By By Natalie Dicou October 4, 2007
The U women's soccer team was injected with a healthy dose of confidence after shutting out Utah Valley State in a 6-0 rout Wednesday. The lopsided score alone is impressive. When you consider the absence of the Utes? two stars -- Adele Letro and Kelly Isleib, both sidelined by minor injuries -- the victory is impressive.

Our society promotes waste

By By Ryan Shattuck October 4, 2007
The following is a true story about a toilet. Any attempts to engage the reader using "crass potty humor" are intentional, but are not to be shared in mixed company. I used a public toilet a few days ago. I won't mention where this particular toilet is located to protect the privacy of the individual who occupied the toilet before me (in addition to not actually knowing the identity of the toilet-using individual).

By By Michael McFall October 4, 2007
The Eastern Art club has helped bring music and dance from all over the Middle East to campus, such as Persian musicians Mohammad Nejad and Latif Bolat, as well as Saren GaoWa, a Mongolian dancer and vocalist. The group also helped bring a former governor of Herat, Afghanistan to give a lecture.
