Soldiers honored at ceremony

By By Arthur Raymond September 24, 2007
An 86-day forced march through Eastern Europe in the dead of winter is just one of the atrocities Richard W. Burt suffered at the hands of the German army in the waning days of World War II. "I weighed 141 pounds before I was captured...and 90 pounds when I was released," Burt said.

Down on their luck

By By Cody Brunner September 23, 2007
LAS VEGAS- Mistakes were easy to come by for the Utes on Saturday night. Missed tackles, turnovers and penalties were in abundance as Utah was blanked by UNLV, 27-0. Not even the return of quarterback Brian Johnson could save the Utes as they suffered their first shutout since 1993.

Walking on and standing out

By By Mandeep Gill September 21, 2007
Much has been made of the talent Utah possesses at the wide receiver position. Ute fans can thank Derrek Richards' hard-working mentality for that. After a stellar senior season at American Fork High in which Richards caught 12 touchdown passes for the football team and set school records in the 100 meter dash for the track team, Richards was left with a lot of high school glory and little college hype.

The Brave One’ is weak

By By C. Glen Bellamy September 21, 2007
"The Brave One" is not a revenge movie...or maybe it is. Or maybe it is, but shouldn't be. Maybe it doesn't know. The tonal approach director Neil Jordan tries to take says one thing, but the plot outline he's hampered by says quite another. This is a film that wants to be a thoughtful rumination on fear and identity, but which eventually can only express itself as an action thriller.

University Singers world-class

By By Christie Franke September 21, 2007
The University Singers are world-renowned. No joke. The choir, directed by Brady R. Allred, won the European Grand Prix International Choral Competition last year in Tolosa, Spain. This followed a slew of other prizes, including the Grand Prize at the 2005 Florilge Vocal de Tours international Choir Competition in Tours, France (They also won five additional prizes there, including first in free program and second in mixed choir).

Horoscopes

By By The Guru September 21, 2007
Aries (March 21-April 19) This week calls for exploration. I suggest you suit up for an adventure. Whether it consists of calling "shotgun" for an upcoming road trip months in advance or spending the equivalent of two paychecks on spelunking gear you will use once, excitement is sure to follow.

Documentary predominantly for fans of Gypsy music genre

By By Sam Potter September 21, 2007
Music, as one artist in Jasmine Dellal's new documentary "Gypsy Caravan" puts it, is God's greatest gift to mankind. One would be hard-pressed to find a person who doesn't like music in one form or another. Music is a universal language which speaks to the soul and watching this magical communication work between a disparate group of people facing huge cultural and language barriers is the best element of Dellal's new film.

The Drop: Don’t go to the music store without it

September 21, 2007
Dropkick Murphys The Meanest of Times Born and Bred Records Three ourt of five stars The appeal of real punk rock has always been its anger and its honesty. No trendy hairstyles, no fashionable wardrobes, no producering-penned singles -- just a couple power chords and a lot of distortion.

Notes from the Enemy: The Rebel Yell (The student newspaper of UNLV)

By By Paul Delos Santos September 21, 2007
Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema said it. Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham reenforced it. UNLV head coach Mike Sanford believes it. UNLV is a different team, and more importantly, an improved team. Despite praises from fellow coaches, the Rebels (1-2) have the same record as UNLV.
