By By Clayton Norlen September 7, 2007
In an emotional debate Thursday, Kirk Jowers, director of the Hinckley Institute of Politics, asked representatives of both sides of the Utah school voucher debate: "Ultimately is this referendum robbing or aiding public education in Utah?" "It's critical for people to hear both sides at the same time," Jowers said.

Saturday holds another opportunity for Real Salt Lake to lessen its deficit in the MLS standings in its race to make the playoffs. Soccer goes on the road

Ever since Rich Manning took the reins of the U women's soccer team six years ago, the Utes have played a three-forward system. It's worked quite nicely for the MWC champs. September 6 Snoop Dogg The Depot (400 W. South Temple) 8 p.m. $61 As the individual responsible for a one-man assault on popular vernacular with his 'izzle' idioms (a torch now passed to the 'thizz' lingo of the Bay Area's Hyphy renaissance), Snoop Doggy Dog, it would seem, has already entered that arbitrary medium between man and myth.

Indianapolis Colts (12-4) You'd think that winning a Super Bowl would get people to stick around -- but it didn't work out that way in Indianapolis. Thirty percent of the Colts' starters have bailed since Super Bowl XLI. But the Colts could still be in the running for another title because they have the best quarterback in the NFL.

Baltimore Ravens (12-4) The first half of the schedule bodes well for an experienced Ravens team with games at Cincinnati and San Francisco as the most likely speed bumps. Steve McNair and Ray Lewis provide leadership on offense and defense, respectively. The loss of Adalius Thomas won't affect a defensive system that has been successful for years with players coming and going and Willis McGahee is a speedy upgrade to Jamal Lewis in the running game.

New England Patriots (12-4) Bill Belichick will be Bill Belichick. Tom Brady will be Tom Brady. But will Randy Moss be Randy Moss or?Randy Moss? The potential upside of Moss is a big-play wide receiver to stretch defenses. The potential downside of Moss is that he becomes a terrific distraction that unravels the team.

Editor: In response to the article "Students upset about slurs in show: Upcoming performance uses put-downs to address racism" (Sept. 4), I have to say for an institution of higher learning, there sure are a lot of closed-minded people wandering around this campus aimlessly asserting their opinions to no end.

America needs universal health care

By By Melissa Schack September 6, 2007
Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah, and Sen. Ron Wynden, D-Ore., have co-sponsored a brilliant act that would create a universal health care system. The Healthy Americans Act would make health insurance required by law with the premiums being paid through income tax filings that would be on an income-based scale.

The Drop: Don’t go to the music store without it

Liars Liars Mute Records Four out of five stars It's always nice to hear a band push the boundaries of rock 'n' roll without exorcising the spirit that is rock 'n' roll. Velvet Underground allusions sometime seem unavoidable when describing modern artists who craft droning avant-rock soundscapes beneath minimalist poetics.
