Surprise Party

By By Jon Gilbert August 16, 2007
When opportunity knocked, Robbie Findley answered. The forward welcomed a scoring chance without hesitation and ended the Houston Dynamo's 11-game unbeaten streak in the process. Findley celebrated his 22nd birthday in style with a game-winning strike, his second deciding goal of the season for Real Salt Lake, as the club shocked the Dynamo in Rice-Eccles Stadium with a 1-0 upset of the Western Conference leaders.

By By Cody Brunner August 16, 2007
It's only been a week and a half since the U football team started their fall practices and the team has already been dealt a huge blow. Senior offensive tackle Jason Boone tore the ACL in his left leg on Thursday, sidelining him for the remainder of the season.

By By Lindsey Kelstrom August 14, 2007

Off-campus options offer more for your money

By By Clayton Norlen August 13, 2007
It pays to shop around. When purchasing textbooks, students have options -- whether they are shopping on campus, online or at alternate sellers such as Beat the Bookstore. But each semester, students spend anywhere from $100 to $600 on required textbooks for their classes.

Utes to face Michigan at the ‘Big House’ in 2008

August 10, 2007
When Utah busted through the BCS barrier in 2004 as a Fiesta Bowl participant, all it wanted was a quality foe to test itself against. Instead, what it got was an outmatched Big East challenger with an 8-3 record. Call it karma, good luck or atonement for a college football atrocity, the U football program has steadily stockpiled an impressive set of parting gifts in the form of quality opponents since being stuck with Pittsburgh in January of 2004.

U scientists say quake didn’t cause mine collapse in Emery

August 8, 2007
The cause of a coal mine cave-in that trapped six miners early Monday morning was not an earthquake, according to officials from the U's Seismograph Stations. Though media outlets had reported that a small quake triggered the collapse, U scientists say preliminary evidence shows the cave-in likely generated the seismic waves that were recorded as a magnitude-3.

Better advising, communication among top priorities for ASUU

By By Rochelle McConkie August 6, 2007
Preparing to embark on a new school year, ASUU President Spencer Pearson listed better advising and improved campus communication as high priorities for his administration. At the top of his list is the "Graduation Guarantee"-an advising program that would help students chart a direct four-year course to graduation-and the implementation of more-detailed event calendars on campus and on the Internet.

Quarterback in action

By By Cody Brunner August 6, 2007
After thousands of passes thrown and more than a year's worth of rehab, Utah quarterback Brian Johnson is back where the U coaching staff wants him -- under center and in the starting lineup. Johnson was the Utes' starting quarterback for the first 10 games of the 2005 campaign before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

No mountain high enough

August 4, 2007
Next time someone tells you he or she climbed Mount Olympus, make sure to give him or her a pat on the back. But the next time somebody claims to have climbed Mount Olympus' south summit in less than 90 minutes, tell that person I've got a camera phone, today's newspaper and 20-to-1 odds that say they won't be sitting by a rusted mailbox in the time it takes to play a soccer game.
