Student-based program provides campus TV screens

What started as a single broadcasting screen in the S. J. Quinney College of Law has expanded to new flat screen TVs in buildings across campus, including the Language and Communication Building, Union, the University Campus Store and others.

Robbers fail in wheelchair getaway

Frank Thrower and Steven Hobbs, both 66 years old, walked into the first floor of the Moran Eye Center on Wednesday at 7:40 p.m. with a wheelchair and picked up a computer from the front information desk, according to a police report. Thrower sat down in the wheelchair with the computer in his lap while Hobbs wheeled him out of the building.

Distance Education spreads across campus

The distance education program is expanding this year, offering more interactive classes. Each class will have monitors and microphones to connect instructors to designated student sites throughout the state using the Internet. Instructors will be able to display PowerPoint presentations and students will be able to interact with each other.

Regents approve Master Plan, Becker calls for delay

The Utah State Board of Regents gave final approval to the U's Campus Master Plan during its regular meeting Sept. 5, apparently disregarding a request from Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker that the approval be delayed.

Senate approves entrepreneur minor

U non-business major students interested in starting their own business might get an opportunity to receive valuable training on campus. The U Academic Senate overwhelmingly passed a measure Sept. 8 to create an entrepreneurship minor program through the David Eccles School of Business.
