Coming into the 2009 season, head coach Greg Marsden had people in line to fill in for the most successful gymnast in Utah history, Ashley Postell. To what extent, however, was a different story.

Thanks in part to many strong performances last week, including all-around titles for Kristina Baskett at Utah State University and Nina Kim at Nebraska, the Red Rocks stayed atop the national rankings for the third straight week.

Friday the 13th proved to be unlucky for the No. 12 Nebraska Cornhuskers, who fell to the U gymnastics team after another strong showing on the road.

The last time Utah traveled to Lincoln, Neb., was in March 2007, when the No. 5 Red Rocks fell to the then-No.7 Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Despite competing in their second meet in four nights and dealing with a number of lineup changes, the No. 1 Utah Red Rocks put up their highest road score of the season.

For the first time this season, Utah did not improve on its team score from the week prior.

The Red Rocks have always been able to pack the Huntsman Center. Friday night, it could very well turn into standing room only.

In January, the electronic journalism major was one of 12 winners selected from over 100 entries of the NCAA student-athlete artist project. Two of Baskett's photos were on display in the Gaylord National in Washington D.C., home of the 2009 NCAA Convention. Baskett's photos were also showcased in the Jan. 12 issue of NCAA Champion.

Utah had its strongest showing of the year this weekend against Oregon State. Thanks to that performance, the Red Rocks find themselves as the No. 1 team in the nation in Monday's poll.

The last team to do it was Utah two years ago, and the Red Rocks did it again as they got the best of the No. 11 Oregon State Beavers 197.050 to 196.650 on Friday night in Corvallis, Ore.
