By By Eric Williams November 20, 2007
Black-soled shoes are not allowed on a basketball court. Diving is not allowed in some pools. Riding a bicycle is not allowed on the freeway. And snowboarding is not allowed at Alta Ski Area. As Phil Collins so eloquently put it, "That's just the way it is.

By By Natalie Dicou December 7, 2006
They're young, they're energetic and they're winning. The U women's basketball team is on a roll. The Utes, who are led in scoring by two sophomores and a freshman, have won three straight games against two in-state foes and, most recently, edged out USC at home.

Letter: We’ve got-ta, got-ta have a little compromise

December 7, 2006
Editor: Clayton Norlen's ignorance on the immigration issue Wednesday ("Fly your flag, whatever the colors," Dec. 6) was made painfully obvious when he admitted to not knowing what the American way of life is. I agree with him that Pahrump's flag law is horribly un-American.

Rugby gets no love from U

By By Cody Brunner December 5, 2006
The Utah rugby team has never asked for much, never received much and will probably never get the respect or financial support it deserves. Despite building one of the most reputable rugby programs in the nation, coach Mark Numbers and his Scrummin' Utes still have to fund their own trips, buy their own equipment and, most importantly, find somewhere to play their games.

Quantum leap

December 5, 2006
The complex and complicated world of quantum physics may actually help simplify everyday life. Researchers at the U have developed a way to read data stored in phosphorous atoms found in silicon, taking them one step closer to creating a super-fast computer.

Ute volleyball comes up short in nationals

By By Cody Brunner December 4, 2006
After a thrilling come-from-behind victory on Friday night against Michigan State, the No. 11 U volleyball team couldn't muster enough to overcome No. 4 UCLA, falling in three games to end its NCAA tournament aspirations in the second round. Utah fought back and forth with the Bruins throughout the second and third games, but UCLA middle-blocker Nana Meriweather proved to be too much for the drained Utes, racking up 15 kills and nine blocks to aid the Bruins in a 3-0 win.

Military match-up

By By Rochelle McConkie December 4, 2006
It's 9:15 in the morning, the temperature is pushing 30 degrees and the cadets and midshipmen are wailing on each other in the snow. In conjunction with the actual Army vs. Navy football game on Saturday, the U Naval and Army ROTC played their annual game of flag football, a tradition that started 23 years ago.

Don Reddish Award comes full circle

November 29, 2006
The most difficult thing about receiving the Don Reddish Award for Mike Litzinger wasn't the countless months of coaching and training his swimming team during the 2005-2006 season. It was the brief minutes that led up to the presentation that was done during the BYU/Utah football game that proved to be the most trying.
