Bad weather postpones softball games

By Paige Fieldsted, Staff Writer

The Utah women’s softball team has made changes to this week’s playing schedule because of the weather.

The double-header against Utah Valley University that was scheduled for today has been cancelled because of unplayable field conditions resulting from weekend snow storms.

The game has been moved to Thursday and changed to a single game that will begin at 4 p.m. in hopes that the weather will clear.

The Utes will now play a double-header against the Wolverines on April 21, a game that was scheduled to be a single game, to make up for this week’s changes.

Utah is planning on playing Wednesday’s scheduled game against Utah State University, which is also scheduled as a 4 p.m. start.

Although the changes give the Utes one less game to prepare before starting into conference, head coach Amy Hogue said it might be a good thing.

“We’ll be able get a feel for what it’s like to play a single game,” Hogue said. “Seven innings is what we’re going to do for all conference games. This is a good feel for us to get that rhythm of pre-game and game-on, on first pitch of inning one. I’m excited for that because we haven’t had a lot of days we’ve had just a single and we’ll have two days to get that conference feel.”

The Utah State game could be cancelled as well if the snow continues through today as the field needs ample time to dry before it can be played on.

A decision regarding whether or not the field is dry enough to play on will be made sometime Tuesday afternoon.
