Students to protest Darfur genocide

The U's chapter of the nationwide Student Anti-genocide Coalition, will hold a demonstration today to protest genocide in Darfur. During the "die-in," STAND protesters will lie on the ground to represent the nearly 400,000 murdered and 2.5 million displaced in Darfur.

ASUU announces Kerfuffle lineup

Shiny Toy Guns, HelloGoodbye, Augustana and Good Morning Maxfield are coming to the U on April 10 and 11 to perform at the Grand Kerfuffle. For the first time in the festival's history, the student body picked the opening band. Good Morning Maxfield was selected after beating four local bands showcased in the Associated Students of the University of Utah's Battle of the Bands competition in December.

Honorary degrees given to current staff, alumni

This year, five community members will be receiving honorary doctoral degrees during graduation at the Huntsman Center on May 2. Nominations for the 2008 awards came from across the campus and community. Most of the nominations came from the Board of Trustees, former recipients of the award and various members of the U faculty and staff.

Leilani Mitchell is getting ready to face her moment of truth. The Ute point guard, whom The Associated Press recognized as a third-team All-American following her team's 27-5 season, is in Florida this weekend attending the WNBA pre-draft camp. Mitchell will participate in three three-hour sessions over two days.

I once saw a hilarious statue representing the "Trickle Down Theory" -- an economic theory stating that by giving tax breaks to the wealthy, they will be able to create more job opportunities in return, thereby benefiting the economy. The statue showed a big businessman urinating on a smaller worker.

Former U professor addresses obesity

Shawn Talbott recently produced "Killer at Large" and wrote The Metabolic Method to understand the causes of, and find solutions to, obesity, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have labeled an "epidemic (that) is threatening the health of millions of Americans.

Letter: Racial equality has not been achieved

Editor: I would like to comment on Tiara C. Auxier's piece on Barack Obama's relationship with the Rev. Wright ("Barack can't hide it," April 2). Let's assume that in fact Wright actually hates white people and that he also hates America. It still does not excuse the comment made by Auxier that "Wright should be falling to his knees and thanking God he lives in America, the greatest nation in the world," which was followed up a few lines later with "nowhere else in the world have black people been blessed with so many freedoms and opportunities for success.
