Kopaunik: A separation of church and state?

By By Janice Kopaunik and By Janice Kopaunik March 4, 2008
A local company has a monopoly on a billion-dollar-a-year industry, and nothing is being done to stop it. This company is using its power to press state laws through that serve to expand its control and increase its revenues, but no one does anything. Unlike necessary monopoly institutions, this is an industry that could perform well through private investors.

Little by little, the U women's basketball team is climbing the national rankings. In their fifth week in the Top 25, the Utes checked in at No. 15. Utah made its Top-25 debut at No. 20 on Feb. 4. Since then, the upward movement has been slower.

Letter: Pappas’ humor, wit, sarcasm and hyperbole is lost like a sheep in a wolf’s belly

By and March 4, 2008
Editor: I write in regards to Nicholas Pappas' column "My good old friend Chris: Buttars' love is give and take" (Feb. 21). His attempt to make Buttars appear "ass-backwards" ironically left me wondering which way Pappas exited the womb. Make no mistake, my good old friend Nicholas is right -- Buttars is an ignoramus.

Pappas: Don’t let a fool make a fool out of you

By By Nicholas Pappas and By Nicholas Pappas March 4, 2008
So, here I am. On my left is my good friend, Chris Buttars, the embattled senator who decided that a bill against school construction was "a black baby. A dark, ugly thing." Buttars is a victim. The liberal community has branded him like livestock. They've decided he's a low life.

Letter: When thinking about sex, do your homework

By and March 4, 2008
Editor: Janice Kopaunik's Feb. 22 column "Don't even think about having sex" was disappointing for both Janice and The Daily Utah Chronicle. Rather than doing the hard work of researching the topic, writing a measured and convincing piece and showing respect for those with whom she disagreed, Janice made her case against religious conservatives' beliefs regarding sex the easy way: by framing others and their beliefs as ridiculous, foolish and/or na've.

Auxier: America is a republic, it should start acting as such

By By Tiara Auxier and By Tiara Auxier March 3, 2008
I had the unfortunate experience of having my post-workout hot-tub time interrupted by a group of supposed intellectuals who, like the "enlightened" lemmings that frequent Starbucks trying to find the answers to world peace and "global warming," felt the urge to rail against guns, the election, President Bush and of course, the war on terror.
