Men’s Hoops: Runnin’ Utes strategize for Colorado State

By and March 4, 2008
The U men's basketball team has dropped four straight games. The Colorado State Rams haven't won a game since Jan. 5. The two teams meet at the Huntsman Center tonight. Something has got to give, right? Not exactly. The Rams have a 19-game losing streak on the road.

Letter: Pappas’ humor, wit, sarcasm and hyperbole is lost like a sheep in a wolf’s belly

By and March 4, 2008
Editor: I write in regards to Nicholas Pappas' column "My good old friend Chris: Buttars' love is give and take" (Feb. 21). His attempt to make Buttars appear "ass-backwards" ironically left me wondering which way Pappas exited the womb. Make no mistake, my good old friend Nicholas is right -- Buttars is an ignoramus.

Pappas: Don’t let a fool make a fool out of you

By By Nicholas Pappas and By Nicholas Pappas March 4, 2008
So, here I am. On my left is my good friend, Chris Buttars, the embattled senator who decided that a bill against school construction was "a black baby. A dark, ugly thing." Buttars is a victim. The liberal community has branded him like livestock. They've decided he's a low life.

Lawmakers in the Utah House of Representatives decided to keep guns hidden on college campuses, although concealed weapons permit holders may open carry firearms throughout the state. The House passed House Bill 473, which clarifies current gun laws, on Monday with a vote of 60 to 11, but amended the bill so permit holders would have to keep guns concealed on university campuses, either under clothes or in a purse, handbag or briefcase.

Letter: When thinking about sex, do your homework

By and March 4, 2008
Editor: Janice Kopaunik's Feb. 22 column "Don't even think about having sex" was disappointing for both Janice and The Daily Utah Chronicle. Rather than doing the hard work of researching the topic, writing a measured and convincing piece and showing respect for those with whom she disagreed, Janice made her case against religious conservatives' beliefs regarding sex the easy way: by framing others and their beliefs as ridiculous, foolish and/or na've.

Little by little, the U women's basketball team is climbing the national rankings. In their fifth week in the Top 25, the Utes checked in at No. 15. Utah made its Top-25 debut at No. 20 on Feb. 4. Since then, the upward movement has been slower.
