Opinion: BYU campus not the friendliest place on earth

November 20, 2007
I never go to the Brigham Young University campus. It isn't that I have very much against it. After all, it's lovely in the fall. The bookstore is a hundred times better than ours could ever be -- I mean, I bought gold shoes there...cute gold shoes -- and I enjoy visiting the offices of The Daily Universe to imagine how nice it would be to work in a newspaper office that has been remodeled some time after 1957.

A holiday tradition at Abravanel Hall

By By Christie Franke November 20, 2007
When Handel's oratorio "Messiah" premiered in 1742, it was sung closer to Easter than it was to Christmas. This was the tradition during Handel's lifetime, but since then, it has changed to the Advent before Christmas. As such, the Utah Symphony and Chorus will be presenting it at Abravanel Hall on Nov.

He says, she says: threesomes are hot

By By Clayton Norlen and Alexandra Gregory November 20, 2007
Dear He says, She says: I've been seeing the same guy, "Dave," now for a whole semester, but I have the hots for his best friend "Casey." OK, so occasionally hooking up and having the most romantic nights of my life probably constitute more than just "having the hots" for Casey, but he doesn't even live in the same state.

Warm weather pushes opening dates back

By By Jessica Dunn November 20, 2007
There is a rumor of an old man who has skied Alta Ski Area his entire life. People say he has figured out the Utah weather pattern for snow and he's almost always right. The old man believes that this pattern determines when the resorts will open. As far as this year is concerned, he's dead on.

U groups quiet over pill price

By By Constance Yonashiro November 20, 2007
A grassroots college movement opposed to the recent spike in birth control prices received a big break at the beginning of this month. But don't expect to find many U students championing the cause. In response to complaints about the increase, Congressman Joseph Crowley, D-NY, introduced a bill to the House of Representatives on Nov.

Rivalry ranks high nationally

By By Jason Peterson November 20, 2007
Two years ago, The Wall Street Journal released its list of the 11 best college football rivalries in the nation. The renowned publication, although not typically known for its sports opinions, claimed these rankings were based on a formulaic approach that included margins of victory, lead changes, recent outcomes and overall quality of the rivalry.

Opinion: BYU license plate holders drive angry

By By Anastasia Niedrich November 20, 2007
According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, 54 percent of law enforcement officers who responded to a survey conducted in all 50 states believe road rage is a major problem. I'm here to tell you from personal experience that for some, road rage isn't just a problem.

The Salt Lake takeover

By By Trevor Hale November 20, 2007
In downtown Salt Lake City, the chances are pretty high that you could throw a rock out of a moving car and hit someone in a band. More than that, the chances of you hitting someone in a good band are almost just as high. Salt Lake City has always had a reputation for producing good, often great, bands, and most of the time they're playing for the love of music and not to snag the cover of Rolling Stone.

The Edge: Breaking down the rivalry

November 20, 2007
Whether it's a succulent strawberry shake from the Malte Shoppe or a pint from The Pie, the nightlife comparison between Provo and Salt Lake City is no contest. Although it's tremendously difficult to turn down flag football, night games, Monopoly or even knocking a few pins down at Fat Cats, the nightlife scene in Happy Valley cannot compare to the assortment of clubs, bars and sporting events that dominate the Salt Lake scene.
