Affordable child care offered on campus

By By Clayton Norlen August 2, 2007
Worried about finding a place to leave the kids during class? Don't worry -- ASUU has a babysitter. The Associated Students of the University of Utah, the U's student government, provides discounted childcare for all students and staff on campus. ASUU's child care program cares for children between 12 months and five years of age with daily prices ranging from $3 to $8 after a $25 registration fee.

Commuters can catch a ride

By By Hillary Holbrook August 2, 2007
Whether a student lives five miles or 50 miles from campus, a variety of transportation methods are available en route to the U. Though some might prefer biking, walking or driving as means for arriving on campus, students can also choose to ride TRAX, Utah Transit Authority buses or campus shuttles.

Balancing education and employment

By By Parker Williams August 2, 2007
For many students, the start of Fall Semester marks the beginning of a difficult balancing act between school and work. When an extra hour of studying can mean the difference between passing or failing, time management becomes vital. By getting one of the many jobs available on campus, not only can students earn the money they need, but by eliminating the drive to work, students can find a few more hours to cram for their next test.

No. 2 for too long

If having seven freshmen isn't an excuse for having a rocky season, then at least it's a feasible reason. The Red Rocks overcame youth just in time to take second at Nationals last season. In 2008, inexperience should no longer be an obstacle -- but getting past Georgia remains.

From start to finish on research projects, term papers or haiku poems, tutors are available to help U students become better writers. Online, over the phone or in person, students can schedule a 30-minute session with tutors from the Writing Center (located on the second floor of the Marriott Library).

The Drop

August 2, 2007
Summer's dead. Accept it. Stow away the board shorts. Scrape off the suntan lotion. Make that overdue visit to the dermatologist to laser off all that en-vogue skin cancer. The books are already en route to bury us all. Luckily, we need not graft away our beloved summer soundtracks.

Cost-cutting digital books popular

By By Arthur Raymond August 2, 2007
In the realm of escalating textbook prices, some students are turning to electronic texts as a cost-effective way to prepare for class and stretch their education dollars. But even though digital textbook options are growing on the Web, they represent a relatively small portion of total textbook sales.

New span links popular trails

By By Jessica Dunn August 2, 2007
Commuting to the U will be safer and healthier in the future. Students and faculty living in the Sugar House area will one day be able to bike to campus without riding along a busy street. A new bridge placed over I-215 near Parley's Canyon this summer was the beginning of a massive project to create Utah's first east-west trail corridor.

The ‘bird does summer

By By Jessica Dunn August 2, 2007
Snowbird is best known for what it does in the winter. But did you know you can still enjoy the resort without the skiing, snowboarding and fresh pow? During the summer, while the valley is baking in the 90-degree temperatures, Snowbird stays at a cool 60 to 70 degrees during the day.
