Ute softball team prepares for difficult transition

Following a conference tournament championship and an NCAA tournament berth in 2004, the Ute softball team will look to bolster the offense and ride the arms of a talented staff in 2005. Ninth-year coach Mona Stevens anticipates a difficult transition, but says she believes that the pieces are in place for growth this season.

Letter to the Editor: Sigma Chi is guilty only of success

Editor: I agree with Nick Macey ("A greek house divided will not stand" Feb. 1) that the U greeks are facing a crisis of membership and that students are missing out by simply going to class and then going home each day. I also have my own (not always so nice) thoughts about the "faux greek system" that called LDSSA.

The second-annual Students with Families Conference will be held Saturday Jan. 22 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Union. The conference is being put on by the Non-Traditional Student Services of the Associated Students of the University of Utah. The theme of this year's conference is "Balancing Families, Academics and Relationships.

A brief history of Sundance

The Sundance Film Festival was founded in 1978 by the Utah Film Commission. It was originally titled The Utah/United States Film Festival, and was intended to attract prominent directors, as well as tourists, to the Beehive State. During its early years, the event focused on hosting seminars and smaller, national film competitions.

Letter to the Editor: Students don’t have enough computers

Editor: Is anybody else as concerned about the recent closing of the EMCB computer lab as I am? By my estimates, EMCB had more than 170 computers before it closed in late December. The shutdown of the lab represents a loss of about one-third of student computer capacity.
