Letter to the Editor: Huntsman has done nothing ommendable his first two weeks

Editor: Let's not be too eager to drown our new governor's supposed "mandate" in praise because of his simple decision to respectfully not take a bribe from the new owner of Envirocare. RuthAnne Frost (in Jan. 11's "Huntsman: Waste not, want not on Envirocare") proposes the governor has "proven his political integrity" by not doing something that was unethical.

Ute football seniors receive all-star invites

Finishing ranked among the top teams in the country has proven fruitful for some U football seniors, who have been invited to play in various postseason all-star games. This Saturday, three Utes will suit up for the West team in the Shrine Game. The event takes place in SBC Stadium in San Francisco, and will be attended by safety Morgan Scalley, wide receiver Paris Warren, and offensive lineman Chris Kemoeatu.

Many students showed up at the Union Ballroom Wednesday to register as bone marrow donors, but the turnout wasn't as good as some had hoped. "We were hoping for more, but today was not a failure by any means. We hit a goal of 100, but were prepared to handle up to five," said Jennifer Shaub, project organizer.

Gay community copes with No. 3

Legislation and civil disobedience are two ways in which members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community are coping with the passing of Amendment 3, a discussion group concluded on Tuesday. Although there was some disagreement regarding which method was better, some participants stressed the need to incorporate both aggressive and behind-the-scenes tactics.

Trustees discuss gun issue behind closed doors

The doors were closed. The Board of Trustees met Tuesday morning to discuss pending litigation regarding the guns on campus issue. "It's an emotional issue. We're trying to decide what our policy should be," said Jim Macfarlane, chairperson of the board.

Museum painting’s shady past discovered

The Utah Museum of Fine Arts has unknowingly possessed and displayed a stolen piece of art since 1994. The work is a Francois Boucher painting titled, "Les Amoreaux Jeunes (The Young Lovers)." Boucher was a famous French Rococo artist who produced numerous works during the 18th century that are now on display at more than 40 museums worldwide, including the Louvre, the National Gallery of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
