Lue Cee Rusiang Kotaro, a senior in psychology, is from a worldly family. Kotaro, whose friends call her "Rus," is from the South Pacific island of Palau. Her twin sister is studying medicine in Fiji, and her brother lives in Seattle. After spending one year at Palau Community College, Kotaro decided to come to the United States.

Battling for beauty

Karsten Heuer, a park ranger and wildlife biologist, spoke at the Salt Lake City Library on Feb. 15 to present his book, "Being Caribou," as part of the College of Law's Wallace Stegner lecture series. The book is about Heuer's six-month journey with the porcupine caribou herd in 2003 from the Yukon to the Alaskan Wildlife Refuge, during which he studied their migration.

The U should have a full-time tuition plateau

Editor: As I read the article in the Chronicle ("How to shorten your stay," Feb. 9), that referred to the long years that many students spend working toward a four-year degree, I could not help but think about something that has troubled me for some time.

Ganger gets acknowledgement Following a sterling weekend, Ute sophomore Zach Ganger received the Mountain West Conference men's Player of the Week award. Ganger knocked off two ranked players in singles, beating No. 92 Niklas Persson of Denver and No. 60 Eric Molnar of Colorado.

Chris Buttars is an idiot

Editor: I was saddened to see that SR 96, the anti-evolution bill designed by Chris Buttars, R-West Jordan, has passed through a House committee. It seems now that this bill will actually be passed. This is so frustrating because, though this bill has been crafted to avoid explicit religious motivation, its religious nature is unavoidably obvious.

Passenger assaults man at TRAX station

Nickolaus Holgate was booked into jail yesterday afternoon for aggravated assault against a 32-year-old male on campus at the Stadium TRAX station platform around 1:30 p.m. An ambulance transported the victim to the U Hospital for cuts and bruises on the face, said Sgt.

Shafer, a U graduate, has received high praises from critics and audiences across the country. Some readers may remember her as Britten in the Utah Opera's production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Once again, turnovers and poor shooting plagued the Runnin' Utes, and once again, the result was a loss. The Utes (10-10, 3-6 MWC) fell 64-53 to New Mexico (13-9, 4-5 MWC) on Saturday afternoon, giving them their fourth-straight loss in The Pit. On the afternoon, the Utes shot 39 percent from the field and committed 19 turnovers, nine of which came from top scorers Johnnie Bryant and Bryant Markson.
