Men’s Hoops: A closer look at the starters: #20, Bryant Markson

March 10, 2005
S o THIS is what the hype was about. Recruited by Kentucky and Arizona out of high school, Markson followed Tim Drisdom to Utah, where he promptly took residence on Rick Majerus' bench. Markson's high-flying, up-tempo style of play didn't suit the coach, so Bryant sat.

Men’s Hoops: A closer look at the starters: #13, Richard Chaney

March 10, 2005
I t's been a bit of a quiet year for the V.P., having battled a broken hand and losing his starting job to Markson. But when some players would have pouted, Chaney just went about his business, playing hard and picking up the scoring slack when other Utes went cold.

Clearing the air: Everyone’s got something to say about elections, so let’s just say them all at once

Should campaigns solicit donations? Is the money well used? RuthAnne: Yes. I want to see who can raise the most money because fund-raising and money management will be a huge part of their jobs. Carrie: No. I wouldn't give these morons 2 cents for their ridiculous campaigns.

Ute softball loses four of five games at Palm Springs Classic

February 28, 2005
Close games haven't been kind to the Utes this season, and karma still hasn't quite lived up to its end of the deal. The U dropped four out of five games at the Palm Springs Classic in California this weekend, and are 6-9 on the season. Oklahoma State and Kansas outlasted the U in one-run affairs, bringing their losing streak to five on Friday.

No poker for U: University administrators cancel on-campus card tournament

February 23, 2005
Several U students were surprised to find out Tuesday morning that the Student Poker Open, a poker tournament with a $20 entry fee, would not be held this week in the Union Ballroom. The tournament, originally scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, had been prominently advertised by the Big SLC Poker Club in last week's Chronicle and in flyers that were distributed all around campus.
