A Calendar from the North country

November 19, 2004
Some days, it's just better being red. Calendar should know: After a freak radioactive sun-tanning accident suffered in our youth, we have forever been the color of lobster. So, we live for days like today, when the Utes and their bleedin' red fans can lure those blue-blooded so-called athletes from Down South into our neck of the woods, and "give 'em the corn!" as ber-sportie Matt Ouellette is fond of saying.

U have been warned

November 18, 2004
The competition between the two universities looms like a dark cloud overhead. Everyone has an opinion on his or her red or blue team of choice. The rivalry is up there with all the big ones-good vs. evil, Luke vs. Vader, GW vs. Terrorism. The rivalry between the two establishments goes back to 1896 when the two football teams first met on the playing field.

I say, ‘Screw football’

November 18, 2004
Saturday is the highest rite of devotion to what some call the "sacred lozenge." For those unaware of periodic commuter jams around the U on some Friday and Saturday nights, this will be our last and most prolific. Officials plan to monitor volume levels on behalf of local residents with the quaint notion that institutions of higher learning ought to obey the same noise ordinances as fraternities.
