Campus after dark: E.R. night staff relies on team work

It's almost 11 p.m. on Monday in the University Hospital waiting room, and things seem to be quieting down. Suddenly, a woman who was wheeled into to the waiting area starts to have a seizure. Staff members put down what they are doing and urgently rush to assist her.

Plans for mixed-use development in the works

Students might be able to step off of TRAX at Rice-Eccles Stadium to a new multi-use development of retail stores, restaurants, offices and university housing, if plans for the "Universe Project," part of the U's Campus Master Plan, move forward. "When people get off TRAX, they trudge along a sea of black asphalt -- it's not very inviting," said Mike Perez, associate vice president for facilities management.

Research animals’ names released

During the last legislative session, the Utah House of Representatives passed a bill that, if signed into law, would conceal the names and personal information of animal researchers at the U. The bill was sponsored in response to animal rights protesters who had been harassing U researchers at their homes.

Young has lived in the same basement room, nestled in his parents' three-bedroom Avenues house, since high school.

Correction: Rock the U winner

The March 31 article "Dance for the Cure" misstated the winner of the Rock the U fundraising grand prize. Dhiraj Chand raised more than $800 and won the "Rock Band" prize.

Few participate in RHA elections

Despite having to pay $22.50 to the Residence Halls Association every semester, few students who live on campus are involved in the elections to choose the new RHA president and vice president. Only one party decided to run this year and will most likely win the elections without contest.

Sustainability not worth the wait for U

"After looking at the numbers, we realized that it just wasn't beneficial to the university as a whole," Young said.

U students and faculty were shocked to discover Monday that the identity of Swoop, the red-tailed hawk, is none other than Nobel Prize winner Mario Capecchi. The Daily Utah Chronicle was able to obtain exclusive security footage of Capecchi removing the top of his costume after the gymnastics meet against BYU on Friday.

Men’s Hoops: WNBA drafts Ute with ‘male sexual organ’

The Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA made history by accidentally selecting the first-ever male in this year's WNBA Draft. With the 15th selection of the second round of the draft, the Sparks selected U forward Kim Tillie. Because Tillie is male and therefore unqualified to play in the women's league, the Sparks were forced to relinquish their rights to the French-born Ute and forfeit their 2008 second-round pick.
