HPER offers pick-up league

By By Jon Gilbert December 4, 2007
Twice a week, athletes from the U gather on Crimson Court in HPER East. A few wear sweat bands and knee braces. One jumps rope off to the side to get some blood pumping. Some stretch and talk about their day and the current sporting events. But the bleachers are pushed into the wall and there are no referees.

Skiing on the faux

By By Eric Williams December 4, 2007
In light of the state's snow pack, Utah ski resorts are adopting a "fake it till you make it" mind-set. Although Utah is known for having the greatest snow on earth, local resorts are being forced to follow the example of East Coast hills and produce faux snow with high-cost snow guns placed throughout their mountains.

Fake fouls are ruining NBA

By By Chris Kamrani December 4, 2007
The NBA is contaminated. Don't worry, there won't be a swift code-four evacuation. This contamination has turned the NBA into a pitiful display of defense, nonsense tragedy theater, a cluster-**** of flops and conspicuous star treatment. Professional basketball, more than any other sport, has seen its credibility dip as low as the depths of Hades.

Optimism in the Iraq war

By By Paige Fieldsted December 4, 2007
Although the war in Iraq is failing, Americans need to have confidence that the United States will achieve some sort of victory, said Philip Gordon, a senior fellow for U.S. foreign policy at the Brookings Institution. At the U's Middle East lecture series last Thursday, Gordon presented a lecture based on his new book, Winning the Right War: The Path to Security for American and the World.

Romney has son’s vote

By By Edgar Zuniga Jr. December 4, 2007
Students wanting to support Mitt Romney's campaign didn't have to go far to hear from someone who knows the presidential candidate well. His son, Josh Romney, spoke to about two dozen U students Thursday night in a lecture hall at the Language and Communication Building.

Domestic violence: the crisis at home that affects us all

By By Anastasia Niedrich December 4, 2007
According to the Family Violence Prevention Fund, at least one out of every three women around the world has been a victim of domestic violence during her lifetime. Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. once called domestic violence a "serious social problem that impacts all Utahns and is not bound by gender, economics, religion or ethnicity.

Winter enthusiasts watch weather religiously

By By Jessica Dunn December 4, 2007
Snowbird got 12 inches of fresh snow last weekend. It's sunny and cold, and there's a good chance of snow every day through Saturday. The snow will most likely fall Wednesday evening into Thursday morning. The whole week should be good riding. No, I'm not a weather forecaster.

Hotter than Heat

By By Jason Peterson December 4, 2007
Cancel the chiropractor appointments. Forget about the pre-game back rubs. Mehmet Okur's back is just fine. The starting center for the Utah Jazz (13-5) shook off some nagging back spasms that kept him out of Friday night's bout with the Lakers and scored a team-high 25 points to lead the Jazz to a 110-101 win over the Miami Heat.

Romney is an idiot

December 4, 2007
Mitt Romney's campaign manager is probably throwing back the whiskey shots -- anything to get over the fact that his candidate is a moron. As the current presidential administration has proved, money doesn't buy brains. Instead of standing apart from his Republican counterparts in the race for the presidency, Mitt Romney showed intolerance for a portion of the American population in a move that could haunt the candidate.

Romney was misquoted

December 4, 2007
Most kids who have played the telephone game know that as a secret gets passed from one person to the next, the details of the original message become distorted. Apparently, adults also enjoy this game, especially when politics are involved. A column written by Mansoor Ijaz in The Christian Science Monitor on Nov.
