Letter to the Editor: Dating Jack-Ass Syndrome

By By Erin Laney and By Erin Laney October 29, 2002
Editor: While reading Jared Whitley's Oct. 23 column, "Mormon Women and the Men who Try To Love Them," I found myself laughing. Please don't misunderstand; I was not laughing because I thought Whitley made a good point, or even that he was funny. Rather my amusement stemmed from the fact that someone as close-minded and theologically narrow as Whitley could have his "theory" printed in The Chronicle.

Letter to the Editor: Poulton is an Honest Politician

By and October 28, 2002
Editor: I am writing in response to Dan Thatcher's Oct. 24 column, "Don't Vote for Steve Poulton," in which Thatcher attacked Poulton, who is running for state Senate in the 4th District. I could take the road frequently travelled, not standing up for anything or anybody and simply sink behind another article, angry, offended and embarrassed that my university publishes such unprofessional things.

Tired of LDS and Non-LDS War

By and October 24, 2002
Editor: I have been reading The Chronicle for several weeks now and have noticed the ongoing war between students who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and students who are not. Every time I pick up the newspaper, there is always some controversy over the LDS issue and I have considered many times adding in my opinion.

Letter to the Editor: Standing Up for Straight Pride

By By Epperson, Brandon and By Epperson, Brandon October 23, 2002
Editor: I read the editorial "Poster Hangers Should Come Out" on Oct. 22 and noted that the author had this to say: "Gays and lesbians have to put themselves in jeopardy every day. They regularly run the risk of getting physically or verbally attacked or discriminated against.

Letter to the Editor: Tired of Lingustic Nitpicking

By By Terry, Sarah and By Terry, Sarah October 22, 2002
Editor: I would like to address the benign, but ridiculous letter from Heidi Blitch on Oct. 21 titled "Gender and Entrepreneurs." In the letter, Blitch pointed out that the French word "entrepreneur" carries a masculine gender, and therefore argues that the School of Business's Utah Entrepreneur Challenge is discriminatory against women.

Letter to the Editor: No Need for Heterosexual Pride

By By Geiger, Sam and By Geiger, Sam October 21, 2002
Editor: I'm writing in response to Aaron Guercio's Oct. 18 letter to the editor, "Diversity Has Gone Too Far" about the university "misappropriating" student funds to address issues involving diversity and homosexuality. Guercio, a junior in biology, said he would not expect the university to put on a Heterosexual Pride Week and did not expect them to hold a Gay Pride Week.
