South Dakota State is 2-0 in the season, and those two wins weren't against cupcake teams. The wins came against Missouri and Wisconsin. And that Wisconsin win was by 20 points.

Utah took a 22-8 run to open the second half and never looked back, beating Jackson State 77-49. Morgan Warburton led the Utes with 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Kalee Whipple and Katie King also had standout games for the Utes, scoring 16 and 15 points respectively.

Hannah Stephens and Janita Badon are slated to fill in for Leilani Mitchell, who plays for the WNBA, at the point guard position. Neither is expected to replace Mitchell's production, an unfair expectation of any incoming freshman. Mitchell was arguably the best point guard to ever set foot on campus.

The U women's team will take the court Saturday in its first and only exhibition game of the season against Southern Oregon. Tip-off is at 5 p.m. at the Huntsman Center.

The Utes are considering two freshmens to run the team this year. Janita Badon and Hannah Stephens will compete for the starting spot, while both are expected to platoon for the majority of the minutes throughout the season.

With the calendar days quickly fading away, the Utah women's basketball team has just started gearing up for the beginning of its season.

Once all the preseason picks were in, Utah found itself with two preseason first-team Mountain West Conference players, the preseason conference player of the year and the No. 1 slot in MWC's preseason poll.
